Mods — safely
San Andreas has one of the richest single-player modding scenes in gaming, from bug fixes and widescreen support to graphics overhauls and total conversions. Stick to the established, moderated sites, and keep mods to single-player only.
Where to get mods
- Nexus Mods — curated, virus-scanned hosting with user ratings.
- GTAForums — the modding community and original release threads.
- ModDB — larger projects and total conversions.
The usual starting kit
Most players build on a few well-known, free foundations (search for them on the sites above):
- SilentPatch — community bug fixes for the original game.
- Widescreen Fix — proper modern resolutions and aspect ratios.
- ModLoader — installs mods cleanly without touching game files.
- CLEO — the script engine most gameplay mods rely on.
- ENB Series — the classic graphics/lighting overhaul.
Note: these target the original PC version. The Definitive Edition and the mobile releases don't support classic San Andreas mods.
Two rules. Never use mods or trainers in GTA Online / any
multiplayer — it risks a ban and hurts other players. And be wary of "mod menus", cracks or downloads
from random sites; they're a common malware vector. Always back up your save first.
